Emergency Supply Kit

Have a TWO WEEKS supply of each item for each person in your home.

Place your kit in easy to carry waterproof containers.

Remember to keep copies of important family documents in a portable waterproof container. This should include wills, insurance policies, contracts, deeds, stocks and bonds; passports, social security cards, immunization records; bank account numbers; credit card account numbers and companies; inventory of valuable household goods, important telephone numbers; and family records (birth, marriage, death certificates).

Water -- Store at least a three-day supply of water (one gallon per person per day*) for each person in your household.

Food -- Store at least three days' supply of nonperishable food.

Pack a can of Sterno or votive candles to your food heat food.

Make sure youve packed for family members with special needs. Formula for infants, special dietary needs for the elderly.

Some ideas of what to pack: ready-to-eat canned meats, fruits, and vegetables; canned juices, powdered milk, canned or dry soups, salt, pepper; peanut butter, jelly, crackers, granola bars

First Aid Kit
  • Assemble first aid kits for your home and for each car
  • Sterile adhesive bandages in assorted sizes
  • 2-inch and 4 inch sterile gauze pads (4-6)
  • Hypoallergenic adhesive tape
  • Triangular bandages (3)
  • 2-inch sterile roller bandages (3 rolls)
  • 3-inch sterile roller bandages (3 rolls)
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Needles
  • Moistened towelettes
  • Rubbing alcohol or antiseptic
  • Thermometer
  • Tongue blades (2) can use as finger splints
  • Tube of petroleum jelly or other lubricant
  • Assorted sizes of safety pins
  • Antibacterial cleansing agent/soap
  • Latex gloves
  • Bug spray
  • Sunscreen
  • Aspirin or a non-aspirin pain reliever
  • Anti-diarrhea medication

  • Syrup of Ipecac and activated charcoal (use to induce vomiting if advised by Poison Control Center)

  • Battery operated radio and extra batteries
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • Cash (small bills) or travelers' checks, change
  • Non-electric can openers
  • Utility knife
  • Fire extinguisher (small canister, ABC type)
  • Tent
  • Tape
  • Compass
  • Matches in a waterproof container
  • Aluminum foil
  • Plastic storage containers
  • Signal flares
  • Paper, pencils and pens
  • Needles& thread
  • Medicine dropper
  • Shut-off wrench (to turn off household gas and water)
  • Whistle
  • Tarp or plastic sheeting
  • Map of the area (for locating shelters)
  • Sanitation supplies: toilet paper, baby wipes, soap, liquid detergent; feminine supplies, personal hygiene items, plastic garbage bags, ties for personal sanitation uses); a plastic bucket with a tight lid; disinfectant; and household chlorine bleach.

  • At least one complete change of clothing and footwear per person
